Life coach for personal development

If you are looking for a way to be successful in whatever you do, you may be struggling to find the best formula to help you do so.  The truth is that it takes two main components in order to be a success in anything.  The first component is motivation and the second is goal setting.  In order to be successful, you need to have a balance of these two components.

Without one, the other is useless.  There are many people who are great at setting goals and then follow up with no motivation.  They tend to get confused when they rarely meet their goals.

It can be difficult to have the right balance.  If you are someone who wants to be a success but will continue to get lost along the way, read more to figure out what you can do to get on the right track.

Finding Motivation:
Motivation is a difficult thing to stir up on your own. We are often motivated naturally to do things.  For instance, when we are hungry, we are motivated to find a place to eat.  When someone says they lack motivation, they are not being honest with themselves.

Everyone has motivation inside of them. The difficult part may be funneling your natural motivation supply to specific goals you have in mind.  Once you know how to motivate yourself, you will find it easier to stay on task.

Each person can be motivated in a different way.  Some people work great on a reward motivation system.  In this system the participants reward themselves each time they meet a goal.

If you are trying to lose weight, then you can reward yourself with a new outfit each time you meet a goal in your plan.  If you are trying to spend less, you can reward yourself with a night out each month you follow your budget exactly.

Many people respond well to this type of reward system, especially if they were raised in a home that practiced the same system.

Setting Goals:
Along with finding your motivation, the other equally important aspect of being a success is learning to set goals.

The most important thing to remember when setting goals is that you should always set realistic goals.  Be aware of your capabilities.

It is fine to push yourself a little, but if you create goals that are not realistic, then you will likely give up trying to meet them.  Often people who set unrealistic goals are capable of the goal itself, but are exhausted at trying to reach it all at once.

With many goals, like weight loss goals, you should break them up into smaller goals.  You can work on part of the goal at a time.

For instance, if you want to lose 100 pounds, it can be difficult to stay motivated with that huge number in mind, especially when the average person can lose a few pounds a week.  Try setting a weekly goal of losing two pounds.  If you exceed that goal then you can celebrate, but you may find that each goal is right on target.

The less pressure you put on yourself to succeed, the easier it will come.

When you do set a goal, make sure that you are constantly reminded of your goal.  You can tell those around you of your goal so you will feel accountable for following through.

You can also create notes to post around your home, office, or car in order to help you keep on track.  No matter what your goal is, it must be remembered each day.  As creatures of habit, we can easily train ourselves to be successful and meet our goals.

When we are constantly focused on the goal at hand, we will be better able to do so.

When you put 50% motivation and 50% goal setting into something you can guarantee you will succeed.  Remember that everyone has the ability to be motivated.

Each person may require a different technique, but we can all be motivated just the same.  Also, be sure to set goals often.

Reasonable goals are those that you are capable of meeting.  Never push yourself too hard with your goal or you might risk getting burned-out and quitting.

Creating a balance between motivation and goal setting is the key to all success however, so keep trying and you will get it right!

Good leadership skills

Do you give your employees the type of leadership in the workplace that they come to expect? What is it that you think they do expect from you as the boss? It is hard to give everyone something that they can take with them, unless you know what you are doing.

Working is a part of life and we all have to do it. Everyone has a boss, but it is what that boss does that leads them to success. What is the key to being the best boss you can be? What is the key to making sure that everyone has the right leadership?

The first thing is the right attitude. If you go into a bad situation without the knowledge and the know how, then it will not work. You have to believe in your people and your company. You have to love what you do, in order to guide and teach everyone else.

You have to take steps to make everyone see that even something bad can be turned around with the right leadership. That is what being a boss is all about. It is not about yelling and throwing fits, but about working with your people and showing them what to do.

Your knowledge of the company and what your company does is a plus. You teach them the right ways to do things. You make everyone follow those rules and make sure that those who don’t are punished.

You be there friend, as well as their boss. It helps to be open and honest with your people. If you do this they will be more comfortable coming to you with the problems and be able to help you fit them.

When you are working with any group of people it is all about team work. If you have those that are not working with the team, then it hurts everyone, including your company. This is why leadership in the workplace is most important and with it you can all join together to get the job done together as a team. You will also have many happy employees and customers.

Working doesn’t have to something you dread everyday, it needs to be something that you love. You will find that those that have the right leadership will have little problems with their company.

Not saying it will cure everything, it just makes it easier and better to do the work. Everyone place of business has problems and their ups and downs, but with the right leadership they can overcome those issues quicker. How is your leadership in your workplace? Do you have the qualities to become the best leader and guide those around you?

Motivation in the workplace

The success of your business depends on the people who work for you.  By working hard and exhibiting all their talents, your employees play a critical part in keeping your customers satisfied.  This is where employee motivation is critical.  It is the “bosses” responsibility to motivate employees which in turn will give them an overall better outlook on their job and will help them to strive to do their jobs to the best of their ability.

One of the hardest and most important things that a boss can do is to keep good employees, not just manage them.  Motivation is a key aspect in keeping employees happy and to creating a positive work environment.

The ways to motivate your employees will differ depending on who you ask, since there are so many viewpoints that are all different and the majority of the answers are right ones.

A manager should realize that there are many ways that one can be motivated and be open to suggestions about how to do this.

Since each person is different, then it makes sense that the ways in which each person is motivated will also differ.  One mistake that is commonly made when trying to increase employee motivation is to “over-do” it.

Do you give unearned praise to employees since this can lead to other employees feeling badly about their performance?

What does "Motivation" actually mean?

Some may think that motivation is a matter of giving gifts or verbal praise.  Some may even think that a raise is a way of motivating employees.

While these things are important, there is much more to motivation.  There are several ways to motivate an employee that is genuine and deserved.  Giving an employee a pack on the back, or mentioning their achievements in a memo or letter are good ways to motivate.

The key is to know your employees well enough to give them what they really want.  It could be time off, a vacation, a raise or even just some praise.

Ultimately, these kinds of things will result in a better quality of work from your employees as well as a better relationship between you and the employee.

Not to mention a better outlook on the job through the eyes of the employee himself.  All of these things will also lead to better customer relationships, since a happy employee tends to make a customer feel more welcome and appreciated.

This will lead to higher sales, which is the ultimate goal in any business

How does motivation help people?

A person can benefit from motivation in so many ways.  Motivation will help to achieve personal goals or perhaps even goal sets by you the manager.  There are times when goals can seem unattainable.

This is when the right employee motivation can make all the difference since it is likely to give the employee that extra boost of confidence. This will also help them to push through a tough time and continue to work hard to attain their goals.

Gaining a more positive outlook on the task or job is a direct outcome of the right employee motivation.  This will be a critical step in your business since it will make your customers happy as well.

This sounds like an easy thing to do, however when your employees are not happy, it shows.  Motivating employees to see the good in the work that they do everyday and to see how they are helping someone is a great way to make your employees and your customers gain a positive perspective of your business.

If your company is stuck in a "rut" it may be time for a change.  Perhaps a change in the scenery or a change in the way the entire business is run.  Who will have better ideas on how to achieve this than the people who work there everyday?

Asking employees for their input is another way to motivate employees.  The power to change is a hard thing to grasp, however with the right motivation, your employees will likely become an active part in the process.

The power to change is a hard thing to grasp, however with the right motivation, your employees will likely become an active part in the process.

Motivating employees builds self esteem.  Self esteem is crucial to the productivity of your employees.  You want employees who believe in themselves and the power to do great things for your company.

By handing down some well deserved motivation, you will increase self esteem in your employees and at the same time be making an important step for the betterment of your company.

With the right motivation employees will become more likely to motivate and help others.  They will learn to manage their own development within the company.  This will result in less work for you and better productivity from the employee.

What are some common reasons why we fail to motivate our employees?

There are times when motivation is needed but simply isn’t given.  This can be the result of management whom is not aware of the power of motivation, or even due to mangers who simply are absent from the workplace where the employees reside.

Often times we can not control the area in which we work, however inadequate equipment to complete a job creates a serious lack of motivation by employees.

Just like you enjoy coming home to an inviting, clean, warm home, your employees want to come to a clean, inviting office.

Updating equipment and creating an atmosphere in which your employees can thrive is an excellent way to motivate them, however it is one of the most commonly over looked ways to motivate.  This is partially because it is difficult to do.

Try to motivate your employees for only a short period.  I am sure that you will see results that you have only dreamed of.

Long term motivation can be difficult but why?

Motivation is defined as, why people do what they do. Long-term motivation can be difficult when you do not make yourself stick to your goals. Most people make goals, but those who are successful have the discipline and drive to achieve their goals and dreams.

Different things motivate people. Some are driven by internal or intrinsic motivation. Others need extrinsic motivation, or outside forces, to help them stay on track. One easy way to help you achieve your goals is to make a contract with yourself and work hard to stick to it. Sign it, date it and keep track of it.

The first step in making a contract with your self to stay motivated is to make an outline. When you make an outline in your contract, you will list long-term goals, short-term goals, payoffs and benefits, rewards and a detailed action plan. By having everything you need to know about achieving your goals, you will stay motivated.

Before making this outline, take some time and think about what exactly you want to accomplish. Maybe you want to reorganize your home, or maybe you want to try out a new fitness plan.

Perhaps you want to go back to school and finish a degree. Whatever it is, you will need to do some research and understand each step you will need to accomplish.

When you list your long-term goals, you will make a list of the things you want to achieve within one to three years. Try to be very specific so you will know exactly what you are working towards.

If you want to lose thirty pounds, your long-term goals will be to lose the weight through diet and exercise. Your long-term goals will be your final end result that you are working towards. This works for almost any goal and will help you in staying focused and motivated to reach your goals.

Short-term goals will be things that you want to accomplish within weeks or months. If you are working on going back to school, your short-term goals may be to request school applications and catalogs or to talk to a financial aid office about your payment options.

Your short-term goals should be specific and should be something that you can accomplish in a short amount of time. Short-term goals are also important because once you finish one goal; you will feel motivated by knowing you are one step closer in reaching that long-term goal.

Your next step in making a contract with yourself is to list payoffs and benefits of your goals and achievements. While losing weight is a benefit, you will want to list the reason why you want to lose weight.

Maybe the payoff is fitting into a certain size jeans again or looking great for an upcoming reunion. Maybe it is because you want to better your health by losing weight. Again, you should be specific when you set these benefits in your contract because it will help you stay motivated.

Now you can think about rewards. Rewards are important when you are setting goals for yourself. When you think about rewards, think about the fun things that you will accomplish by reaching your goals.

Lose that weight and buy a new dress. Reorganize you house and get a new couch. Whatever you think it the best part about reaching your goals, use that as a reward to help stay motivated.

The last part in setting a contract with your self is to have a specific action plan. An action plan will tell you what steps you need to take to reach your final goal.

It is here that you will list what you need to change, do, or accomplish in a day, a week, a month or a year. This action plan will help keep you motivated to reach your end goal. List your action plan and keep it in mind everyday you are working towards your goal.

When you take the time to make an official contract with yourself, you will stay motivated and ready to reach your goals. It will be easier when you can see your long and short-term goals in writing and know what rewards and benefits are waiting for you along the way.

Your action plan will help you stay on track when you are working hard to accomplish your goals and dreams.

Does money really motivate you?

Parents may often wonder what could motivate their children to do better in school or around the home. Many parents turn to a reward system and use money as the main reward. There are a lot of discussions that talk about whether or not money should be used as a motivator. Some parents use money as a tool and believe it works.

Those who are against using money as a motivator argue that it does not work and only teaches kids to work for things that are materialistic. So does money work as a motivator and is it a successful tool?

There seems to be a lot of debate surrounding motivation and money with kids. Some say that if you pay someone to be motivated, you are telling that person that is it acceptable to do something only for money and not for their own personal benefit.

Those who believe that money works say that because adults work for money and to make a living that it should be taught at an early age to work hard for pay.

Most kids are interested in money and when a parent pays them money as a motivator it can encourage a child to learn about the value of a dollar and how to manage the money they earn.

Since every person is motivated by something different, money may not work for every child. Some people have motivation from within or intrinsically.

These people do not often need rewards or encouragement to keep them motivated to complete or finish a task. They have the mind set to succeed. Others are extrinsically motivated, or need outside forces to keep them interested in completing a chore or tasks.

These are the people that need a lot of encouragement, rewards or praise in order to stay motivated to complete a task. Kids are no different and money may or may not work for all children.

Using money to motivate children can work if the parent chooses to do it as a lesson. You can teach your children about saving, giving and spending. Parents can also give money to their children and teach them about banking and saving their money.

Before you decide to use money to get your child to make good grades or to keep their room clean, think about a system and stick to it each and every time. Maybe think about giving a weekly allowance or taking away money for lower than expected grades.

In addition, money is a great motivator when that is taken away as a punishment for not doing what is expected of them

In addition, using money as a motivator helps kids build up self-esteem when they can look and see the progress that they have made. Money is a great learning lesson and parents that use that as a reward can combine it with lessons that kids can use for a lifetime.

Those who feel that money should not be used as a motivator say that children should not be taught to work for materialistic things and that they should be taught to be motivated from within.

They believe that parents should teach their children to feel successful without money and that money cannot teach them to be proud of their accomplishments.  Parents who feel that money should not be used to motivate children also believe that children should learn to what their values are without money.

They should learn that money does not define worth and that things like caring, giving and their work ethic are more important than what they can earn. Parents that feel that money should not be used as a motivator may use other reward techniques.

These techniques might include praise, encouragement and other forms of reward such as hanging a good paper on the wall, taking the child to dinner, or even taking the child to the movie.

While no one can say what will or will not work for your child, it is best that a parent understand what makes his or her child motivated.

Money can work, but it can also motivate children to do things for the wrong reasons. Using money to motivate your child might best be used in addition with teaching your child about the rewards of being motivated by intrinsic reasons, such as pride.
